Message I'm talking about a track application here, and HP is not everything. 350hp vs 350hp - I'd take the LS1. Why? Because the LS1 is going to give me peak torque under 2500, even less with a few proper modifications (local s14/ls1 makes peak tq well under 2000). That, and as I said.. the engine weighs less, is cheaper to maintain, easier to work on, and parts are everywhere. I'll take power/torque that will get me out of a corner faster and down the straightaway before the next guy. I eventually would probably boost it, well down the road - but I'd probably do rear mount turbos just to keep the weight back there.

I'm not doing an LS1 because I think it has more potential for peak power, even though that may very well be true - it's the other factors that attract my interest. Besides, I don't need ridiculous HP in a 2800lb dedicated track car.
